Students will investigate financial literacy through a variety of authentic tasks that prepare them for the future but inspire them now! 

Students to analyse their strengths and interests to see what career options align and build an online resume based off skills gained from everyday tasks such as household chores, participating in sports, or being an older sibling. They have the opportunity to practice an online job interview and land a pretend job!

From here we use Google Sheets to calculate where our pay goes when it doesn’t go in our pocket! We look at how different careers have different entry requirements - apprenticeships, university, or working up the ladder - and how these, as well as income levels, can affect income tax, Kiwisaver rates and student loan repayments.

Once we have our net income it’s time to start spending! Students are challenged to ration their incomes to afford food, shelter, and clothing. We use online websites such as TradeMe to find a flat, Countdown to budget weekly groceries, online clothing stores and more! Gain a realistic appreciation of day-to-day financial commitments.
