Kath was a foundation trustee on the VLN Primary Governance Group, and initiated and leads the Rural & Remote Schools Project.

Kath has been a primary school teacher for 25 years. She has spent the past 10 years as teaching principal of Halfmoon Bay School on Stewart Island. Kath is passionate about Stewart Island and thrives on creating a wide range of opportunities for the students at Halfmoon Bay School to learn more about their awesome environment and about connecting with the wider world.

She is proud of her pupils' achievements, and feels every success and struggle as if it were her own. Her overriding mission is to make sure her pupils are never disadvantaged by their geographic location. “They can have the same or more opportunities, but never less." Kath has pushed her small school to get more involved in the wider community and do things it hadn't previously done.
